Job Summary:

 

Reporting to Manager of Brokerage Technology, the Senior Analyst is part of a team responsible for Questrade Trading platforms.  The Senior Analyst provides expert support to Development, Information Technology, Trading, Back Office & Compliance departments.  Responsibilities include working closely with external vendors, trading venues and internal departments (Development & IT) for a variety of functions including quality assurance role for upgrades & maintenance cycles and for new implementations.   Day to day responsibilities  include monitoring trading, data interfaces and front end servers, critical start & end of day processes and providing on-demand support to internal trading departments.

 

The successful incumbent is able to effectively merge trading with technological knowledge and skills obtained through years of relevant industry experience in a senior level role.

 


Job Responsibilities:

·          Daily, ensure applications are functioning as expected: connected to exchanges, orders are working correctly, and accurate market data is being received

·          Using a variety of tools and methods, monitor trading & market data gateways and front-end servers

·          Conduct investigations with routing and executing venues during outages affecting electronic trading

·          Troubleshoot and correct technology issues at the application & connectivity level

·          Troubleshoot FIX messages affecting connectivity, routing or order flow

·          Quickly identify hardware, operating system and networking issues; escalate to the Information Technology Group for resolution

·          Complete detailed and accurate Incident Reports for outages affecting production systems

·          Participate in process improvements and modifications to existing systems

·          Provide timely updates via regular meetings and electronic reports.  Lead discussions as subject matter expert

·          Keep up to date on industry developments and bring relevant issues to the attention of others

·          Participate and in some cases lead the Quality Assurance and User Acceptance Testing for upgrades and new releases

·          Create, evaluate and execute functional QA test script(s) for new trading enhancements, upgrades and/or regulatory changes

·          Create and maintain accurate technical documents for Operational Manuals used various support groups



Required Qualifications:

 

·          5 plus  years in the investment industry, including experience with direct access, retail  and equities and options operations

·          Experience with equities based electronic trading systems, retail trading systems including client configuration tools and certification testing. 

·          In depth understanding of FIX protocol including message constructs and FIX tags, ability to troubleshoot FIX orders, including routing issues and order rejects

·          Understanding of algorithmic products, dark liquidity pools, crossing networks, etc a definite asset

·          Excellent knowledge of connectivity infrastructure, including TCP/IP, firewalls, and network connectivity providers

·          Excellent problem solving skills

·          Experience with Software Development Life Cycle

·          Hands-on experience and proficient knowledge of the following: 

·         US and Canadian Equity and Option marketplaces

·         Order entry procedures, types, rules, and best practices

·         Order routing conventions – smart routing

·         Financial market order gateway operation and maintenance

·           Canadian certifications for equities and options (CSC, DFC, OLC) preferred

·          Prior experience in a  QA role; writing & executing test scripts for equities and options trading systems is highly desired

·          Working on a flexible time schedule outside of normal working hours.  Willingness to start early or stay late, as required

·          Strong communications skills both verbal and written for a client facing role.
